Frequently Asked Questions

Who can benefit?

  • Post surgical recovery including cosmetic procedures

  • Lymphedema or swelling related to lymph node removal

  • Edema resulting from sprains/muscle injury/sports injuries

  • Arthritis

  • Chronic Fatigue

  • Migraines

  • Digestive concerns

  • Sinus congestion or chronic puffiness

  • Tension and Stress

  • Those feeling sluggish, fatigued, or “stuck” in their body

  • Anyone looking to support immune function and overall wellness

What should I wear?

You may undress to your comfort level. For best results, direct skin contact is ideal.
If you prefer to wear clothing, lightweight underwear is recommended. If wearing a top, choose a loose-fitting tank to avoid restricting lymphatic flow along the sides of the body.

How should I prepare?

  • Arrive well-hydrated

  • Avoid heavy meals immediately before your session

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing

  • If you are coming for post-surgical care, please follow any guidelines provided by your surgeon

What does the technique feel like?

MLD is very gentle, slow, and rhythmic.
It is not painful and often feels deeply calming, with many clients experiencing a meditative or relaxing effect during the session.

What should I expect after a session?

After your session, you may notice:

  • Increased urination as your body processes fluid

  • Reduced swelling or a feeling of lightness

  • Improved mobility or decreased pressure in affected areas

  • A sense of relaxation or fatigue

Some clients also experience mild detox-like symptoms (such as slight fatigue or thirst), which typically pass quickly. Staying hydrated will support the process.

How frequently should I come in?

This depends on your goals:

  • General wellness / maintenance: every 3–4 weeks

  • Swelling or inflammation: 1–2 times per week initially

  • Post-surgical recovery: often multiple sessions per week early on, then tapering as healing progresses

  • Lymphedema or chronic conditions: frequency may be ongoing and tailored to your individual needs

MLD is a cumulative therapy, meaning results build over time with consistency and proper support between sessions.

What should I do after my session to enhance and maintain results?

To support your lymphatic system and extend the benefits of your session:

  • Hydrate well to help your body process and move fluid

  • Gentle movement (such as walking or swimming) encourages lymph flow

  • Avoid alcohol for several hours post-session

  • Wear loose clothing to prevent restriction

  • Follow any post-surgical care instructions, if applicable

  • Consider compression garments if recommended for your condition
